About the Design
Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) movements aim to pressure Apartheid states to change and respect human rights. According to Wikipedia Apartheid states are defined by two international treaties, the 1973 The International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid and the 1998 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Very simply put, Apartheid states have laws, policies, or systems in place which segregate or discriminate on grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, or other characteristics. For example, Israel has a dual justice and criminal system under which the settler population has virtual carte blanche to essentially dispossess Palestinians of their land. BDS movements have previously been successful in defeating apartheid regimes, like the 1990's South Africa.
